Wednesday, October 21, 2009 Day Two

8 am to 9 am   Conference  Check-In

Doors do not open until 8 AM and look for our signage.  Clearance will be needed for participant’s entry into the federal building.  Have picture ID ready.  The cafeteria is open for breakfast and we will have coffee and rolls.

9:00 am to 10:15 am Panel One:

Partnering and Joint Ventures with International Partners who want to invest in companies and import technology to the USA.

This panel will be foreign owned companies with an interest in partnering with US companies or investing in US companies.  These are usually high tech firms with expertise in a variety of areas.

Learn about opportunities to engage international companies in your business operations. Direct foreign Investment is a viable way to raise capital and build substantial businesses in your area.

In addition, under SBA's size rules, a concern can be awarded a contract as a small business even if it is a foreign company, provided it has a place of business in the U.S. and makes a significant contribution to the U.S. economy through the payment of taxes or the use of American products, materials or labor (121.105(a)(1)).

So, in the case of a JV with a foreign company, again, there must be operations in the U.S. and "significant" contribution to the U.S. economy.  If the 51% partner is a U.S. company and the work is being done in the U.S., there should not be any problem.

10:15 am  to 10:30 am  Break.

10:30 am to Noon Panel Two:

The second panel will be drawn from government experts and other individuals who are knowledgeable about joint ventures and partnering with foreign companies.

Invited Speakers:

Invest in America

Trade Free Zones

SBA - Man-Li Lin

ITA – Ryan Holloway
